Wednesday, August 1st, 2007 I successfully accomplished creating
and finally erecting
a 4 ton rock monument to the late Marion "Ma" Nugent,
beloved mother of legendary rock-n-roll MotorCity MadMan Ted
Nugent. The memorial tribute stands just outside Durty
Nellie's eatery and pub in downtown Palatine Illinois. E.K.
The Day Begins....
The Day began as any other, I woke up, ate breakfast and walked
the Buddy boy(dog). Read my newspaper, did a few radio
interviews over the phone with WKAN and WLUP, then contacted Ted
and all his people via e-mail, that I was to be on cell phone
the rest of the day.
The Plans....
When I got to Durty Nellie's I quickly met up with owner Jim
Dolezal and set up a temporary office in their box office area.
Producer, friend Floyd Dillman along with landscaper Paul
Munagian, his wife Brenda and I met up to secure the area the
rock was in for the crowd and the press, paying particular
attention to making sure there was going to be ample area for
great photo opportunities and viewable shots of myself, Ted, the
mayor and the monument. A series of brief meetings with
new web site photographer Larry Schaefer and Jay Cabrera from Durty Nellie's assured that photo ops would
be readily available in side Durty Nellie's music room, where
Ted would sign some guitars and pictures
for Durty Nellie's wall of fame. I had a brief with the press, a
preliminary gathering was planned for ample
viewing while Ted signed the memorabilia. Shortly
thereafter I met with Ted's road manager to do a quick run
through of the days events before Ted's arrival. Another brief
meeting with former Illinois Entertainer publisher Ken Voss,
former editor Guy Arnston and ad manager Ron Ramelli . Some plans
had to be cut short due to Ted's impending late schedule.
Some swift and decisive action was taken by myself and the mayor to ensure Ted's safety.
Kudos to the friendly and cooperative Palatines police who lent
a helping hand to secure the area. A
podium and sound system were set in the area surrounding the
rock monument. It was then cordoned off. I met briefly with
Mayor Rita Mullins and we discussed the itinerary for the
dedication. Thrilled to be a part of this unique event, Mayor Mullins
the buzz was clearly in the air that Ted Nugent was
soon to descend upon Durty Nellie's. I did a quick "On air"
cell phone interview with WIIL rock radio urging people everywhere to come on
down to this exciting event.
All my plans and hard work paid off
due to the help I received from the many people who helped me such
as; Paul Muagian, Floyd Dillman, Larry Schaefer, Gary Linger,
Guy Arnston, Ken Voss, ,Mark and Jim Dolezal, Jay Cabrera, Mayor
Mullins, Dirty Dan Buck, Marge Collins and many many more. With
them my goals would not been achieved.
A
hardy thank you from the Kink!
